Access to food security, education and a self-determined life for children, women and their families affected by extreme poverty and gender-based violence in Ecuador
The project aims to holistically improve the living conditions of children, youth, women and their families affected by extreme poverty and/or family violence.
The support of the Ursula Zindel-Hilti Foundation makes this project, jointly developed by Caritas Ecuador and a network of partner organizations, possible in order to contribute to the holistic development of particularly vulnerable children, women and their families. The goal is to provide children and young people with a safe and dignified home and to ensure their access to basic rights such as healthy nutrition, health and education. With regard to girls and women, protection from violence, access to vocational training courses and the development of income-generating structures also enable them to lead a non-violent and self-determined life.
Through the structures of the partner organizations, a comprehensive network is formed in 13 of Ecuador's 24 provinces, enabling 6'649 direct beneficiaries and 12'452 indirect beneficiaries to be reached. Through well-coordinated cooperation between the partner organizations and a focus on common goals, new synergies are created for the benefit of children, young people and women. This enables them to join forces to bring about systemic change, especially among political decision-makers.
The project component „Sembrando Sueños – Sowing dreams “ supports 370 young people with scholarships for higher education and vocational training, in particular to enable girls, women and indigenous youth to achieve economic independence in the future. An important part of the program is the voluntary work that scholarship recipients do in their communities.
In addition, the development of an international volunteer program promotes solidarity and cooperation between different cultures and social classes and encourages young people to continue to work for social justice in the future.
